Much of the UK’s housing is old and energy-inefficient, so there’s room for some considerable improvements, the main one of which, if we live in one of these houses, is to insulate to stop heat escaping. A large percentage of heat is lost through windows, roofs and walls. We can also invest in a more energy-efficient heating system.
There’s always the option of generating our own renewable energy, which could enables us to reduce our demand on the grid to near zero. Whilst there’s a considerable initial outlay, the long-term savings will make up for this. We could consider solar, wind, ground-source or air-source heating. If we can’t do this on an individual basis, there are many successful community energy models to use for inspiration. Look at ….. need additional info?
